Student Clubs

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB (BOTTLES FOR THE BAY)
Advisor: Ms. Janet Harris
The goal of this club is to become an active participant in the community by recycling and helping to clean the ocean by donating to the "Heal the Bay Foundation". Bottles for the Bay is also the re-activated Environmental Club. The club focus is on bottles and cans right now, but hopefully in the near future, other items will be recycled.

FBLA (FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA)
Advisor: Mr. Beau Gasinski
The goals of FBLA are to promote competent, assertive business leadership; strengthen confidence of students in themselves and their work; create interest in and understanding of American business enterprise; encourage development of individual projects to improve home, business and community; facilitate the transition from school to work; assist students in the establishment of career goals; encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty; encourage and practice sound financial management; develop character, prepare for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism.

DAV-FI (DIGITAL AUDIO VIDEO FILM & INTERNET CLUB)
Advisor: Ms. Amber Mayfield
The goals and objectives of the DAV-FI or film club is to introduce and explore the creation of digital video using digital equipment. We encompass all aspects of the creation process including video integration with the Internet. The members discuss screenwriting, filming techniques, opportunities in film, film festivals and film critiquing.

FNL (FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE)
Advisor: Mrs. Alicia Callanan
The goals and objectives of FNL is to create an environment for young people that is free of drugs, alcohol and tobacco. FNL participates in many activities. These include La Palma Days, trips to Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, Boomers, Lakers games as well as T.V. tapings.

HOT (HOMEWORK OR TUTORING)
Advisor: Scott Burns
H.O.T. provides a chance for those students who need help in their U.S. or AP U.S. history class or who simply need to talk to an adult who won't make judgment call or them, so the H.O.T. Club is also a Hear Our Troubles group as well.

NHS (NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY)
Advisor: Ms. Karen Rae
The purpose of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarships, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. NHS is open to Kennedy students who meet the membership requirements of: sophomore, junior or senior grade level; 3.0 or higher GPA; 50 hours of community service per year; only sophomores are eligible for new membership, juniors and seniors continue their membership if they have verified completion of 50 hours of community service the previous year and still have a 3.0 GPA.

ANIME CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Alicia Callanan
Modern Animation & Graphics is a club that promotes the growing interest in animation as seen in movies, games, art, etc. Each member's individual skill in drawing and animation is developed in an optimistic surrounding. The Club's activities are group oriented activities including movie socials and drawing contests.

CSF (California Scholarship Federation)
Advisors: Ms. Summer Howe and Mrs. Jeniffer Zinn
CSF is a state-wide organization whose purpose is to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Qualifying for membership is on a semester basis following appoint system which requires A's and B's in the most difficult classes and no D's or F's or N's or U's. A lifetime member or Sealbearer receives a special seal on their diploma, a certificate, pin, gold cords to worn at graduation and the possibility of receiving scholarships. CSF offers community service opportunities, new friends, leadership skills and a confidence boost if you become an officer and activities and socials.

KLS (Kennedy Literary Society)
The goal of the Literary Society is to provide social and intellectual activities for students with literary interests. The Society's goal is to create an opportunity to appreciate the humanities, promote understanding of literature, and provide students with the opportunity to improve their writing. The Society sponsors poetry writing contests, SAT practice sessions, mystery dinners (dinner with a mystery to solve), movie socials, "chain story" writing (multiple authors who each contribute a chapter which is built on the chapter of the previous author), and Writers' Workshop sessions, which offer help to fellow students. The Society also volunteers its service in support of community activities. The Society finances its activities through funds raised by its members in car washes, candy sales, and participation in Kennedy's International Days.

COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB
Advisor: Mrs. Alicia Callanan
The Computer Club meets as needed, usually monthly. The members participate in various activities involving computer technology. Field trips are planned to colleges and the Jet Propulsion Lab. The students sponsor Star Craft tournaments in which students compete against each other to better their computer skills.

BRIDGES
Advisor: Mr. Sean Pfeiffer
The Bridges program is through the Orange County Human Relations Commission. This program promotes diversity and human relations, tolerance and dignity. Special Focus is placed on school and community events and activities. Bridges is open to all students.

IB DIPLOMA CLUB (International Baccalaureate Club)
Advisor: Mrs. Christie Bettendorf
This club was formed to provide a social outlet for the often over-worked IB students. Club members participate in fundraising activities to offset the considerable cost of exams, attend social gatherings, and join in field trips to local universities.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB
Advisor: Mr. Terrance Rollerson
The International Club promotes cultural diversity and education. The club's meetings expose the members to various cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Students from various cultural groups are encouraged to share aspects of their culture so as to promote diversity on campus. The International Club plans an International Week during the month of March in which a series of school-wide events and announcements are shared with the students and staff during announcements and during lunch.

KEY CLUB
Advisor: Mr. Terrance Rollerson
The Key Club is a high school club fashioned under the guidance of Kiwanis International. The goal of Key Club is to promote a safe and fun opportunity for performing community service and provides the members with the opportunity to perform community service, build character and develop leadership. The members participate in a variety of fundraisers, food drives, money drives and programs to benefit local community organizations. Activities include making Christmas and Halloween cards t be given to senior citizens and/or sheltered individuals, assisting other organizations with the setup and running carnivals and charitable fundraising events.

VISUAL ARTS CLUB (VAC)
Advisors: Mrs. Hilda Vazquez-Diaz and Mr. Mark Plettinck
The VAC is an organization aimed at introducing students to a variety of artistic social structures and nurturing their creative and visual communition skills. Fieldtrips and social functions push students to become more creative and more aware of the artistic process. Club members create props for many of the school's activities, including Homecoming week and Renaissance assemblies. The VAC also works closely with the cities of La Palma and Buena Park for various community events.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)
Advisor: Ms. Amber Mayfield
The AVID club is an academic and community service cub aimed at promoting student interest in attending four-year colleges or universities after high school. Activities include Family nights, college and Career speakers, and visits to local universities.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Advisor: Mr. Britt Johnson
The purpose of the Model United Nations is to promote student and teacher interests in politics and current international affairs. By participating in simulations of U.N. Conferences, students are given the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills in the following areas: researching, debating, public speaking, negotiating, writing resolutions, and strategic planning.

THEATER/BEATNIKS
Advisor: Mr. Sean Pfeiffer and Mr. John Hoganson
Is an organization on campus that allows students to perform a variety of different theater productions during the year. Students are able to interact with each other developing acting skills; these skills create the foundation for a fun extracurricular activity and for future careers in theater. This year's anticipated production will be Antigone, scheduled sometime in second semester. Listen to your daily announcements for more information regarding this spectacular performance.
