Academic Performance Index (API)

Kennedy High School has reached an API of 794 for the 2008-09 school year. API stands for Academic Performance Index (API) and its function is to measure the academic performance and growth of students. API is the building block of California's Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999. It is a scale that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000. A school's score on the API is one indicator of its performance level. The statewide API performance target for all schools is 800, so Kennedy is on the cusp. A school's API is measured by students' performance on the California Standards Tests (CST) in English-language arts, mathematics, history, and science as well as their performance on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).
In the spring of 2001 Kennedy received its first API score of 710. Our API has increased every year, and has increased by a total of 86 points over the past eight years.

We are very proud of our teachers, students, and families who support our school and help our students accomplish their goals.
